Beginning of Spring

Details

Watercolour on 100% cellulose paper · 25cm × 35cm

A scene from the very edge of winter — the trees still bare, but the light already different. The water carries the season more honestly than the land does; you can hear it picking up.

An original watercolour of a Peak District moorland beck on 100% cellulose paper. Up on the gritstone uplands the year turns slowly — the heather still rust-brown, the bracken flattened — but the becks are the first to register the change, running clear and bright with snowmelt. A small scene from the hinge week before spring breaks proper.
