Autumn in Richmond Park
Details
A still, cold edge of Richmond Park in October. The cedar dark and heavy against a soft grey sky, the bracken behind it turning — ochre, rust, the last gold of the year. And beyond, half-lost among the trees, a domed tower lifting its arcade above the canopy.
An original watercolour of Richmond Park in autumn, painted on 100% cotton paper. The view looks out from near Petersham Gate on the park’s western edge, where the royal deer park drops toward Petersham village and the Thames. The arcaded tower beyond the trees is the Italianate campanile of All Saints’, Petersham, which has overlooked the park since 1909 — here softened by flat October light, the cedar’s deep green set against the rust and ochre of the turning bracken.
