The old oak in its bronze new-leaf, the pine standing dark beside it. A patch of open ground between them, last year’s bracken still copper, a path slipping past on the right. Early spring, a clear blue afternoon.

An original watercolour of an early-spring afternoon in Richmond Park, painted on Arches HP 100% cotton. A south-west London park kept open enough that two trees and a turn of bracken can stand in for full countryside. The bronze of the new oak leaves set against the green of the conifer, the warm and cool sides of the season held between them.
