Scots Pine

Details

Watercolour on Arches Torchon 100% cotton paper · 14in × 10in

That fortnight when the Cairngorms heather goes pink and the heath fills up with people walking. The Scots pine leans over the path like it’s watching them through; you can almost feel it count them past.

An original watercolour of a Cairngorms heath in late summer, on Arches Torchon 100% cotton. The Cairngorms National Park — the largest in the UK — turns deep pink for two or three weeks when the heather flowers, and the old Caledonian pine remnants stand alone above the bloom. A single Scots pine leaning over the path, walkers ducking under it, the highest plateau in Britain held in the cumulus behind.
